This month was busy with numerous
birthdays (including Raffy's 4th) and parties to go to every weekend.
We also travelled to Devon for a week's holiday in Woolacombe - we
stayed in a lovely apartment overlooking the beach and the boys had
a great time. The weather was very changeable with a hot summer afternoon
on Exmoor (just like I used to enjoy as a child) and torrential cloudbursts
while on the beach in Woolacombe - the boys loved this, and they were
wet already so didn't mind the rain... |

On Woolacombe beach the day we arrived in Devon. Monty clearly enjoyed
being buried in the sand... |

Rafferty enjoys a cuddle from Vanessa during a picnic on Exmoor -
this is high moorland near Dunkery Beacon overlooking the Bristol
Channel. |

How many small boys get to take their first picture on a Canon 1Ds

Later the weather improved and we had a sunny afternoon in Cloutsham
valley, in a lovely meadow by the stream. Monty pinches Grandpa's
nose...

More piggybacks... Raffy and Monty re-enact the Grand National but
on slightly slower horses.

Rafferty had just been bought his new bike (without stabilisers) and
enjoyed practising in the meadow. He was able to ride without stabilisers
straight away - just got on and off he went. It took him about a week
to master starting off by himself though...
|

Monty in the meadow with Cherry - a little dog who we assume lives
on one of the nearby farms. The strangest thing is that two years
before, when we had come for a picnic in Cloutsham when Monty was
a baby, the same little dog had come to visit us then!

|

A trip to Braunton Burrows, a nature reserve in the sandy dunelands
very close to where I grew up. Here are the four Horton-Szar men...

We stopped into The Red Barn, a big family pub on the sea front in
Woolacombe for a bite to eat.

Back in Canterbury, Monty tries on his new firemans outfit...
