July to September 2003   Download times...
In July, we were delighted with Monty's speedy and healthy arrival into our family - the majority of the pictures of this can be seen in the 'Monty's Arrival' section, but there are one or two here... He grew very quickly and things seemed to fly by much more than with Rafferty, but then, having two children is very different to having just the one. It was a glorious hot summer with record temperatures, so there were many opportunities for playing out at the beach and in paddling pools. We also had a nice long break in Portugal when we did a house swap with Jo & James for two weeks.   Please note that in order to present large, high-quality pictures, this page may take almost a minute to download completely. The first few pictures will be visible quickly, but please have patience with the rest!

Raffy and Emily having tea...
Early July 2003 - Raffy and Emily having a tea party in our bedroom.

Playing with his cars in Horner.
On a visit to Devon in August, we spent a day on Exmoor and had cream teas at a little cafe in a village called Horner. Raffy was unimpressed with the cream teas but enjoyed playing with his toy cars.

An July afternoon in Whitstable - Raffy posing on the beach again.
The cars ended up in the river...
Still in Devon, the green tractor gets to drive underwater as Raffy plays in the river.

Eating ice-cream in Cascais
On our summer trip to Portugal (we did a house-swap with Jo & James, and Eddie & Cathy came out to join us) - Raffy enjoys an ice-cream in a local cafe.

Eddie and Monty
Eddie holds Monty - only a month old here - on a visit to one of our favourite restaurants in the Sintra hills, near Cascais.
  Monty balancing on wall...
Monty sleeps peacefully as his chair balances on a wall. This was safer than it looks, honest!

Monty & Raffy asleep
They look like such angels when they are asleep, but don't let that fool you! The two boys have a quiet nap on a hot afternoon in Cascais.

  Raffy hides under a blanket
At the windmill restaurant, Rafferty plays his favourite "Where's Raffy?" game with Monty's blanket.

Rafferty, Monty and Annabelle
When Jo & James came back to Portgugal, Raffy and Annabelle had a great time playing together, and harrassing poor Monty.

A nice portrait of Vanessa and Monty - he's about 9 weeks old here.
  Tiger, tiger...
Easy, tiger! Raffy shows off his fab stripy dressing gown.

Wrestling crocodiles in Brighton
On a hot summer day in early September we visited Mat and Ruth in Brighton - this later invoved a walk along the seafront where I taught Raffy to wrestle crocodiles...

On Whitstable beach, another day at the beach hut - Raffy and Emily have a little cuddle.

On a grey September afternoon in Whitstable, at Eddie's beach hut - Rafferty gnaws on a rib.

Monty enjoys a cuddle and peers out from under his blanket. He is about 9 weeks old here.

Auntie Tara enjoys a cuddle with Monty in the beach hut.

Auntie Cathy and Monty on the seafront in Whitstable. At this stage Monty is a very contented baby, and will sleep for hours.

Vanessa and Raffy outside our house. Raffy is getting the hang of riding his tricycle but still refuses to pedal!
