Let's talk about money...
We still need to get the club finances sorted out. For the moment,
we'll be paying for events on an ad hoc basis; although we have the
club account set up, the standing orders for regular payment of subs
need to be arranged. I might try to get this done at the next meal - whenever that is, but
I don't think we should start collecting money until after the next
summer weekend, which gives us enough time to organize things properly. The
Club Constitution is partially completed at the moment. Legally
we do need one in order to take advantage of tax-free interest on
our subs as a non-profit making organisation (which can be used to
buy more booze for the weekends!). We'll talk about this more the next time we meet, and perhaps draw a final version up on the back of a
napkin, or something.

A Brief History of the Club |
The West Tytherley Gentlemens' Club
is a reunion society established in June 2000. The founding event
was Dan's stag weekend, which took place in the small
Hampshire village of West Tytherley - hence the name. Many of the
members attended Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital medical school together,
while others were friends invited to the stag weekend - and an excellent
time was had by all. The purpose of the Club is to arrange annual
reunion events, where gentlemen scholars of good character may drink,
be merry and take part in various frivolous activities such as paintball,
karting and being generally silly. At present the events include a
summer weekend of beer and paintball and a winter meal. Membership
is free and by invitation only. This is a non-profit making organisation;
all subscriptions collected are used to pay for events taking place
in the year of collection, or accumulation of club assets.

• James & Cath announce engagement!
|
Huge congratulations to James Coupe and his long-suffering girlfriend Cath Harrison - they have just announced their engagement. We're not sure exactly when the wedding will be, but apparently Nick is going to get another shot at being a best man. It really is an odd way of describing Nick. James is currently far too rich for his own good, being a dentist, so I expect there to be lots of free booze at the wedding, and I want an invite please, chaps!

• Now we can post to this site by email!
|
I've just set up the email posting function on Blogger. This means we can post to this page directly, just by sending an email. Now all our members can update the site directly with their news and gossip. I'll be sending you the address separately - keep it safe or anyone could post stuff to the site. Using the system is easy: just send your news as a plain text email to the special address, with the title in the subject line (e.g. "I've got a new Audi TT by Mat") and the text as the body of the email. At the end of the email, hit the delete key a few times to make sure there are no hidden line-breaks at the end (which can spoil how the message will appear) and send. Within a few seconds, your message should appear as an article on the site.

• Next event: How about meeting up in Brighton?
|
It's been far too long since we all got together for beers. Sadly, club events have slipped a little over the last year (mostly my fault) and we have missed the 2002 weekend and the 2003 winter meal altogether. How about we arrange a meal in Brighton in the next few months? A lot of the chaps live there already, and accommodation won't be a problem as we can all crash on Ben's & Mat's floorspace (sorry guys). I'll be in touch over the next few days to get this sorted out. James - I'll give you a ring to see what is happening with the summer weekend in Dorset.

• Where are they now? Latest news on the lads...
|
Ben is still living in Brighton and currently doing an ENT job after getting his MRCS. Spends much of his free time trying to kill himself by kite surfing in high winds ("Well, I was being dragged along this beach at forty miles an hour when suddenly I noticed I was surrounded by naked women...") or disappearing off to he Alps.
Mat is also living in Brighton with his girlfriend Ruth, and is doing some locum work in Milton Keynes (why?) at the moment. He got his quiz a few months ago, and is looking for radiology SpR jobs.
Nick is just finishing off his GP rotation in Cirencester, and has finally decorated his house so it may be safe to visit. Not sure what he's up to on the totty front, but apparently one of the girls who disappeared off around the world actually came back!
Nathan is doing very nicely in Warlingham. They have another baby on the way - just a few weeks to go now, and Nathan is busy building his own small hospital in Thornton Heath. He's just building another 3000 square feet of extension onto his surgery, with plans to put in a pharmacy and other things later.
Dave Butler is also a single man again, and has found a new flat in Brighton, but not sure exactly where yet. I haven't spoken to him for a while but will get the latest gossip soon. The Craigster is still living in Brighton, and is getting involved with the telecoms industry last I heard.
James Coupe is still doing his dentistry in Dorset, and living with Cath. He has been trying valiantly to arrange a get-together for us by the sea, so we'll have to do some serious organising and make it happen.Duncan Coles is now working in London and is doing an ITU job. I think he'll be looking for medical reg jobs soon as well.
Tim Hucker now doing anaesthetics, but may be going to Australia for a year in June - he has a med reg job lined up in Perth. He's a single man again now, but is staying in the same house near Chichester.
Max Tomlinson is branching out and has set up his own business offering naturopathic health retreats - it's called In-Spa Retreats, and his wife Filipa has left her job in publishing to work with him. Many congrats are in order as they are having a baby in July - not long after our second.
Last I heard, Izzy was finishing off his GP rotation, and by now may well be in practice. I think he has a partnership in his father's practice lined up which will be pretty cushy by the sound of it. Must give him a ring and find out the latest.
Hamid is working in Stevenage at the moment and will probably be looking for SpR number soon. Not sure exactly which speciality he wants to get into, but I doubt he have any problems.
I have not heard from Ritchie for quite a while - but as far as I know he's still running his pub in Torrington.

|
Testing, testing, one, two, three. I've just set up a new version of the WTGC page, using Blogger.com to make my life easier. Hopefully, we'll be able to keep the page more up-to-date in future, and it might even be possible for you chaps to update the page yourselves. Watch this space...
